The error code EL 01 is related to communication issues between the indoor and outdoor units of the air conditioner. This code is commonly used by many brands to indicate the same problem. Some of these brands include:
- Voltas
- Midea
- Lloyd
- Godrej
- Reconnect
- Blue Star
- Carrier
- Mirage
- Actron
- LG
- Samsung
- Marq
- Olimpo
- Elgin
- Admiral
- Mr. Cool
Common Causes:
If you recently cleaned your Mini Split air conditioner and reinstalled it, and then it started displaying the EL 01 code, it’s likely that the error is caused by wiring connections between the indoor and outdoor units. Therefore, it’s crucial to focus on checking and addressing any potential connection issues.
Steps to Fix Error EL 01:
- Turn off and disconnect the air conditioner: When the EL 01 error occurs, turn off the unit and disconnect the power supply. Wait several minutes before turning it back on.
- Turn on the unit: After a few minutes, turn the unit back on and check if the issue persists.
- Visual inspection: Perform a visual inspection of all electrical connections on the air conditioner, looking for loose or damaged wires.
- Check the voltage: Use a multimeter to verify if the voltage supplied by the electrical network is suitable for the operation of the unit.
- Measure the signal voltage: Measure the signal voltage between the cable connected to terminal S and the neutral cable. Place the red multimeter probe on the signal cable and the black probe on the neutral cable.
- LG models with positive transmission protocol: For LG air conditioner models with this protocol, when the unit is operating normally, the voltage measured on the signal cable will oscillate between positive values.
- Constant values in faulty electronic control units: If any electronic control unit is not functioning correctly, the voltage values measured in the previous step will remain constant.
- Electrical continuity test: Before making any replacements, it is recommended to measure the electrical continuity in the reactor located in the outdoor unit, using the multimeter on the continuity scale.
- Check the outdoor unit’s PCB: If you have access to the outdoor unit’s circuit board, verify its functionality. Locate the LED diodes and check if they light up correctly.
- Power factor control circuit issue: If the outdoor electronic board is not functioning, there may be an issue with the power factor control circuit. Check the rectifier bridge, IGBT transistor, diode, and controller of this circuit. Additionally, inspect the condition of the PCB tracks.
- Inspect the communication circuit: Locate the communication circuit by searching for the pair of optocouplers. Check the values of the resistors, capacitors, and diodes in this area.
- Check the capacitors: The capacitors on the electronic board store energy and help regulate the power supply to the air conditioner. If they are faulty, they can cause communication errors.
- Software error: In some cases, the EL 01 error may be caused by a software malfunction. To perform a factory reset, consult the owner’s manual and follow the specific instructions.
This video shows the steps to take in order to fix the EL 01 error when the issue is related to communication problems.
